People for Children LogoPeople for Children was created to educate and support the international framework for the elimination of children trafficking, and to influence policy makers in the war against the exploitation of minors.

This program was launched in May 2004 in Puerto Rico as an educational campaign in the media.  The Foundation and the Interamerican Development Bank partnered to create various Public Service Announcements featuring Ricky Martin as an advocate of children’s rights. The campaign was disseminated in Latin America to educate people about this modern day slavery.

A year into the campaign, the Ricky Martin Foundation and the Human Health Services Division of the US State Department forged an historical alliance that included a 1-800 bilingual call to action number as part of the Public Service Announcements disseminated in television and radio across continental USA, and Puerto Rico.

To further strengthen our fight against human trafficking, last November we partnered with the International Organization for Migration in Latin America and established a 1-800 Colombian number as a prototype model to be follow in the region.

The goal of People for the Children is to syndicate Public Service Announcements, and support other programs geared toward the elimination of sex trafficking, debt bondage, forced labor, and sex slavery. We believe that global campaigns will enable us to combat and monitor the problem of trafficking in persons. Disseminating relevant and timely information, will allow us to influence policy making in the war against the commercial exploitation of children.

Our work includes:

Supporting  programs which research and document routes, cases, contributing causes and policy, as well as social implications of trafficking and trafficking related issues including public health, immigration and law enforcement practices.

Educating the public on the national, regional and international scope of the problem of trafficking through Public Service Announcements, briefings and public awareness programs, and through our web site: www.rickymartinfoundation.org.

Advocating for the protection of the rights of victims of trafficking against all forms of exploitation.

Assisting advisors to policymakers, legislative bodies, governmental agencies and international organizations on the status of domestic and international trafficking.

Promoting model legislation to assist foreign countries in adopting effective legislative measures for the prevention, control and criminalization of trafficking.

Supporting practical training for law enforcement personnel about the techniques and resource available to victims.

Collaborating with academic institutions, governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations and advocacy groups in the development and implementation of resolutions to the problems relating to the exploitation of children.
