The Ricky Martin Foundation and the San Juan Municipality holds  this month a Capoeira summer camp, in which 60 Puerto Rican children  from families of low income resources between the ages of 10 and 13 will participate.
Irma Garriga, wife of the Mayor of San Juan, said at a press conference that the purpose of the summer camp is to "steer these children away from the dangers of falling into bad habits, to teach them Capoeira and martial arts, and to help them avoid falling into temptation in their daily lives."

Bibiana Ferraiouli, spokesperson for the Ricky Martin Foundation, thanked the alliance of the foundation with the municipality for "defending children rights and for allowing them to enjoy the summer camp, which will make their spirits stronger."

"Capoeira is a dance that will keep me entertained, that will allow me to have fun.  It helps me learn how to defend myself and will teach me about discipline," said 13 years old Johnathan.

Martin, who is currently on tour in Spain, indicated in a press conference that the summer camp "will offer children from my country the opportunity to enjoy themselves in a healthy environment with this wonderful type of art.  This is the third year we offer this summer camp and during these weeks they have the opportunity to strengthen their self esteem."
