Golfers around the world unite for the welfare of children

(San Juan, Puerto Rico) – On Monday, June 11th the Ricky Martin Foundation will join efforts with The RCI Global Vacation Network Christel House Open tournament to benefit children around the world. The tournament which will take place at the Dorado del Mar Golf Club and Caguas Real Golf & Country Club golf courses. The tournament in Puerto Rico is set to start at 11:30 a.m. and will occur simultaneously in 22 golf courses around the world. 

Thus, Puerto Rican golfers will join thousands of players in India, Australia ,South Africa , United Kingdom , Mexico , Venezuela and the United States , all for the welfare of children."The RCI Christel House Open is a unique tournament because it unites sportsmen with social awareness all over the world.  We feel honored to once again have the support of the Ricky Martin Foundation.  
Aside from being able to enjoy this dynamic sport in two golf courses in Puerto Rico, golfers will be playing for a noble cause," stated Viola Cortés, General Manager of both Dorado del Mar Golf Club and Caguas Real Golf & Country Club. One hundred and eighty (180) golf players participated in this successful tournament last summer and this year over 220 are expected. Christel House is a non-profit organization for humanitarian development with headquarters in Indianapolis. 

It provides academic services, scholarships, health care services, as well as nutrition, ability development and professional aid services to abandoned children and orphans in nine countries.   Its main project, People for Children, condemns child exploitation. Meanwhile, the Ricky Martin Foundation advocates for the welfare of children all over the world in critical areas such as social justice, education and health. Its main project condemns child exploitation.Fernando Fernández, Chief Operating Officer for the Ricky Martin Foundation added that "we feel proud to once again join the Christel House tournament because we share a common cause, the welfare of children.  

It is an event that allows us to solidify our role as children rights facilitator and protectors, as well as to strengthen the initiatives that provide safety and hope to children in our country." Among local initiatives of the Foundation, Fernández mentioned the following: Capoeira Summer Camp for children at risk aged 10 to 13 years who live under unstable circumstances, in association with the San Juan Municipality; the "Red de Puertorriqueños Desaparecidos", in association with the Puerto Rico Police Department and Save the Children; and Scholarship for students of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine; Support of SER de Puerto Rico Rehabilitation Center in Aibonito, and Voices of Childhood.

He also said that the foundation plans to launch, in the next months and in association with Microsoft, the educational campaign "Navega Protegido" (Surf the Net Protected), which provides practical tools to protect minors from danger while using the internet.  

The Foundation will also undertake the first investigation about human slave trade in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, in association with the University of Puerto Rico and John Hopkins University.The organizers specified that 100% of the funds collected will be assigned to projects of both organizations, which will unite efforts for the welfare of children all over the world.
