Microsoft Spain Joins The Ricky Martin Foundtaion To Promote Child Safety Online Through The Navega Protegido Initiative

Microsoft Spain and the Ricky Martin Foundation announced their intention to extend the outreach of Navega Protegido, a social awareness initiative, launched last November in Latin America, to promote and ensure child safety online.

Angel Saltos, Excecutive Director of the Ricky Martin Foundation, Ricky Martin and Enrique Fernández-Liguilhoat, Marketing Operations Director of Microsoft Spain.

Since the initiative was launched, both entities have joined forces to develop strategies and educational activities to ensure online security efforts in the Latin American continent. Among those efforts, three multimedia videos featuring Ricky Martin were recently recorded in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. The videos will be distributed to millions of children in the region.

“We are fascinated with this initial effort to collaborate with the Ricky Martin Foundation in Spain. Both parties intend to implement the agreement through actions geared toward the advocacy of children’s security online,” said Enrique Fernández-Liguilhoat, Marketing and Operations Director of Microsoft Spain.

Microsoft's commitment to children's online safety is underscored in three major ways that include education, technology, and government partnerships. Through education we provide practical tips to adults, educators, and community leaders; and we train law enforcers on how to pursue online criminals. With technology, we develop software and online tools to help protect children from potentially harmful content. Through government partnerships - in addition to training law enforcement, we actively cooperate with investigations against online child abuse and we support legislation to create tough penalties for them in conjunction with non-profit organizations.

Ricky Martin emphasized during the meeting that “joining efforts with Microsoft Spain solidifies our commitment for the well-being of children, and the protection of their rights. We are confident that other countries will join our efforts because the threats of the Internet have no boundaries”.
