(Quito, Ecuador) - The National Institute of Children and Family (INNFA)
and the Ricky Martin Foundation, signed an Inter-institutional Cooperation
Agreement for the promotion and diffusion of messages regarding a National
Campaign against Human Trafficking.
The agreement was created by the First Lady and President of INNFA, Maria Paret
de Palacio, Cornelio Tamariz, Executive Director of INNFA and Angel Saltos, President
of the Ricky Martin Foundation.
The First Lady expressed her gratitude for the support given to this campaign,
especially to Ricky Martin and Ecuadorian Angel Saltos, President of the Ricky
Martin Foundation, for helping stop the sexual exploitation of children, and
to inform the public through this campaign of the real threat faced by children
so they can denounce the terrible treatment to which they can fall victim.
The main objective of the campaign is to educate the public about the dangers
of illegal migration, especially when guided by traffickers who deceive their
victims, taking what little they have and in some cases, turning them into labor
or sex slaves. In our country, the percentage of these cases has increased due
to the illegal migration of more of our countrymen.
The First Lady and National President of INNFA, was able to secure television
spots from the Ricky Martin Foundation, in which the famous singer urges the
end of child sexual exploitation.
INNFA has been able to diffuse the campaign in 12 provinces throughout the country,
through television, radio and press.
Human trafficking is an international crime and in our country, it is sanctioned
with 35 years in jail.
