As the result of his significant involvement in activities related to
combating trafficking in person and children sexual exploitation,
Ricky has been invited to co-host a luncheon at the United Nations on
Wednesday, October 20, 2004. "Beyond Rhetoric and Resolutions: Fighting
Child Sex Tourism"
This unique and high visibility event is being organized
by the State Department in conjunction with the US Office at the United
Nations in New York. Both offices recognize the importance of having
Ricky Martin speak about his Foundation, People for Children and his
vision about the issue.
The primary objectives of this event is to raise
awareness of the child sex tourism issue, recognize current "best
practices" in this area, and encourage countries to actively combat
the problem. Approximately 60 key Ambassadors and designates from countries
around the globe as well as private sector corporate leaders will be
the primary audience for the luncheon.
This event will end with a press conference attended by the
most visible media representatives from across the globe to build worldwide
public awareness.
